AHA Journals Online SUBSCRIBER HELP & SERVICES:
Frequently Asked Questions
about Member Subscriptions

American Heart Association Premium Professional Members have FREE access to the six new Circulation Portfolio of Journals Online through December 31, 2008. Student/Trainee Members may access the full-text material for FREE through December 31, 2008 if they have elected to pay a nominal fee for online access to the five core journals.

Online access for General Professional Members will require a paid subscription, or full-text articles may be purchased individually for $20.

  1. Will I receive a password? May I share my password with friends, or is use limited solely to me?

Yes, when you complete the subscription process, you will receive a user name and a password. You are the only one licensed to use this password.

  2. What if I forget my password?

We have instructions for what to do if you forget your user name or your password. Details about how to do this will be included as part of the subscription process.

  3. Why should I get a member subscription to the AHA Journals Online?

    Member Subscribers have access to:
Tables of contents, abstracts, full text searching, full text display, document delivery, PDFs, links to Medline and GenBank, interjournal links to other HighWire Press journals, and the advantage of having password access to Circulation Online from any computer connected to the Internet.

Members of an AHA Scientific Council also receive a 25% discount off all journal subscriptions, including online only subscriptions, and a discount off of registration for the annual AHA Scientific Sessions meeting. Please click on the links below for a complete list of member benefits and more information about member subscriptions.

Without a subscription, you have access to Tables of contents, abstracts, and full text searching at no cost and without having to register.

  4. How can I tell if my institution has subscribed? How do I get my institution to subscribe?

If your institution has a paper subscription, it will be eligible to have an electronic version of the journal as well. In so doing, you will automatically have access to the tables of contents, abstracts, full-text searching, full text display, PDFs, Medline and GenBank links. You'll also see a button at the top of the page confirming you're signed in as part of an institution.

If your institution does not have a paper subscription, it cannot get an electronic version of AHA Journals. If you would like to have an institutional subscription, please contact your local librarian.

  5. Will I still be able to get the paper version? And for how long?

Yes, if you are a print subscriber will continue to be able to receive the paper version along with your online access. Customers who sign up for online only subscriptions will not receive a paper version.

  6. Who is eligible for a Member Subscription?

Current members of an AHA Scientific Council are eligible for subscriptions, both print and online, at the member rate. To join an AHA Council, contact our Customer Service Department or click here to order online.

  7. How can I access AHA Journals Online if I am not an AHA member and I do not have access through an institutional subscription?

You may wish to apply for AHA membership or you may wish to purchase an Individual (Non-Member) print subscription, which includes access to the online version. By becoming a member of an AHA Council you may sign up for a print subscription at the discounted member rate. Online only subscriptions are also available. Without a subscription, you have access to tables of contents, abstracts, and full text searching (without full text viewing) at no cost and without having to register.

  8. How do I become a member of an AHA Council?

Information about AHA Scientific Council memberships is available ONLINE or by contacting the AHA Customer Service Department. You may also order subscriptions and AHA Council memberships ONLINE through the Lippincott Williams & Wilkins Online Store.
